Oklahoma coach Brent Venables keeps ‘great faith’ amid wife Julie’s latest cancer diagnosis
Oklahoma football coach Brent Venables’ wife Julie is battling another bout of cancer.
The Venables family first learned of Julie’s cancer diagnosis in 2023. He underwent two procedures, one in August and the other in November.
During his weekly show, Venables revealed that Julie’s cancer returned a few months ago. Julie has spent time in Norman, Oklahoma, and New York since May. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor, but Venables noted that he was doing “amazing.”
Julie spoke to The Oklahoman earlier this year and before her second diagnosis and said she is “cancer free” and feeling in good health.

Venables praised Julie for her strength and said she had the support of a “great team.”
“His spirit and energy are incredible,” Venables said. “We have a great team and great faith. It’s in God’s hands. A big part of the battle was his will to fight and keep swinging, and that’s what he’s doing.”
Ahead of Oklahoma’s game against the UCF Golden Knights in October 2023, the Sooners’ home field has made a special promotion for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Pink ribbons were painted at both venues, and Sooners players and coaches wore pink as they walked onto the field. Brent and Julie Venables have been married for 27 years and have four children.
