Elle Macpherson Says She Once Drank Vodka from a Broken Bottle

El Macpherson has been open about his past struggles with alcohol.

The Australian supermodel and actress, 60, details in her new book, Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning Confidencewhich was published on Tuesday, November 19, about how he drank alcohol after putting his children, Flynnborn in 1998, too Cyborn in 2003, sleeping while living in London. (Macpherson shares Flynn, 26, and Cy, 21, with a former partner Arpad “Arki” Busson.)

“I used to drink after putting my children to bed. I would sit down alone and drink vodka and write my family to-do lists and letters. “I was doing housework, listening to music until 11 o’clock at night, and then I went to bed exhausted,” he wrote. Page Sixexplaining the confession of Alcoholics Anonymous. “I used to wake up in the morning, run six kilometers, drink coffee for breakfast. I would stick my fingers down my throat and make sure to throw up three times before I went to bed. It happened three times.”

On one occasion, Macpherson wrote that he hit a rock while on holiday in Ibiza with Busson and his sons. Upset that he could not join Busson and his friends at the nightclub, he recalled how he tried to open a bottle of vodka. He wrote that he struggled to open it and ended up smashing the top of the glass bottle to open it.

“I rushed and came across a gun that might be full of glass fragments. And I drank it,” he recalled, per Page Six.

After three drinks, Macpherson had a moment of clarity and poured the entire vodka. He booked himself on a flight back to London, where the family was staying, and entered rehab.

“My youngest son was only 6 months old and my oldest was 5 and a half years old,” he wrote.

Macpherson also wrote about how his alcoholism affected his career. He recalled that he participated in the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney but missed his voice. “I had drunk enough champagne or vodka to calm down that I was going crazy,” he wrote.

“I found myself turning off the electricity … I was talking to someone and I forgot what I was saying. They were looking at me questioningly as if they were expecting me to continue,” recalled another AA confession.

However, according to Batman and Robin actress, people around her were unaware of her drinking habits because she was the last to be seen. “People used to tell me that I was organized. I was really proud of that. “I think I should have been organized because I was drinking and I didn’t want anyone to know,” he wrote. So I make sure the house is clean and tidy; I make sure I look good and I make sure the kids are perfect.”

In the book, Macpherson also reveals her breast cancer diagnosis, which she revealed for the first time in September. At that time, he said he decided not to treat cancer with traditional medicine. Instead, the model dictated an “intuitive, heart-guided, holistic” approach to treatment.

“Every day I make a living with determination, I deliberately feed my life and raise myself,” he wrote. “Cancer is no longer an option for me. Like drinking is not the answer for me.”
