Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t check back and forth with the bakery during the ‘view’
“The View” host Whoopi Goldberg didn’t address the backlash between her and a Staten Island bakery during Monday’s “The View” after she accused the bakery of denying her work because of politics.
Goldberg and her co-stars celebrated her 69th birthday Wednesday with Charlotte Russe desserts, a classic New York treat. Goldberg told the audience that his birthday order almost fell through because of what he said was the bakery’s opposition to his political stance.
“They said their ovens were down, all kinds of things, but people went to get them, that’s why I can’t tell you who made them,” said Goldberg. He suggested that they may have rejected this order because “they don’t like my politics.”
The bakery was later identified as Holtermann’s Bakery, a 145-year-old family-owned establishment in Staten Island, by self-testing for Charlotte Russe desserts.

Bakery owner Jill Holtermann rejected Goldberg’s version of events, explaining that the bakery’s issues were not political but caused by mechanical problems with their boilers, a constant challenge in their building, which was built in 1930.
“I said to Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it now,'” Holtermann told the outlet. “We do a lot of things with my boiler.”
However, they finally made the order as the co-hosts enjoyed the desserts live on air on Wednesday.
Holtermann appeared alongside Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, who explained what happened, at a press conference Friday.

“It’s been here 145 years. They had a boiler that was 60 or 70 years old. And the first week in November, guess what? It went on the fritz,” Fossella said.
“They changed it. And Holtermann’s reputation is good, so rather than commit to something they couldn’t guarantee, they said, ‘We won’t do it.’ And the person who defiled them, insulted them, took that as an insult to him, let this family be here, God willing, for another 145 years.

Goldberg appeared to double down on his proposal in a subsequent video posted on Friday.
“It seems strange that when we called a few weeks before my birthday, we were told they couldn’t process my birthday order because of a machine malfunction,” Goldberg said. in the next video. “But somehow they were able to accept 48 different orders for the same dessert when someone else called without using my name.”
“The View” did not immediately return a request for comment.
