Warriors legend Andre Iguodala is the Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and says the organization will fight LaMelo Ball’s $100K fine.
The Hornets ball player said “no homo” after hitting the Bucks on Saturday night in his post-game interview and was fined the league’s highest possible fine.
In a recent appearance on a stream from Twitch star Kai Cenat, Iguodala explained why Ball’s comments were punished so harshly.
“Yeah, you can’t say that in the NBA,” Iggy said. “Because it’s insensitive, it insults the team, and you know what I’m saying? Since we have a huge fan base and we don’t want to, you know what I’m saying? We want to talk to them with respect and that’s not it, not them.”
Kai Cenat continued to ask him, “One hundred thousand?”
Iguodala replied, “Yes, very little. We will fight that. Don’t worry. But we can’t say boys at the same time. So, you can’t say it in an interview.”
Ball addressed his comments Sunday after the loss to the Cavs, saying he didn’t mean to offend.
“Before we start, I just want to talk about yesterday,” he told reporters. “Of course I didn’t mean anything [by it] and they don’t want to offend anyone. I have love for everyone, and I don’t discriminate.”
Hornets coach Charles Lee said he had spoken to Ball.
“As an organization, obviously that’s not something we hit,” Lee said. “Our standards and what is required of our players in the environment we create are very important to us.”
“I have spoken to Melo and it is clear that he is very sorry. From what I’ve seen since I’ve been with him, he loves everyone. He enjoys being around the center and that’s not how he works. He and I talked about the seriousness of the situation and how he should behave if he goes forward.”
