Ben Affleck is confident that AI will not take over Hollywood movies for this reason

Ben Affleck is getting a lot of attention for his ideas on artificial intelligence.

Last week, the actor spoke at CNBC’s Delivering Alpha 2024 investor conference, taking the time to share his thoughts on how AI will affect the entertainment industry.

“Movies will be one of the last things, if everything is changed, replaced by AI,” he explained.

“AI can write you the best acting verse that sounds Elizabethan, it won’t write Shakespeare for you,” Affleck continued. “The task of having two actors, or three or four actors in a room and the sense of seeing and building, that’s something that currently eludes the ability of AI and I think it will do for a reasonable time.”

He continued, “What AI will do is break down the laborious, unproductive and expensive aspects of filmmaking which will allow for cost reduction, which will lower the barrier to entry, which will allow more voices to be heard. , that will make it easier for people who want to do a ‘Good Will Hunt’ to go out and do it.”

The A-list actor, who has gone on to form his own production company, Artist Equity, with longtime friend and co-star Matt Damon, said AI is “the best artist,” a tool that can see other people create certain things and then learn to act.

“It’s just things that cross pollinate,” Affleck said, referring to AI’s ability to draw from a library of existing examples to create something. “Nothing new is being done.”

When the president argued that that was true now, Affleck insisted that it would be true for a long time to come.

“An artist knows how to work, art is knowing when to stop,” he said. “And I think knowing when to stop is going to be a very difficult thing for AI to learn because it’s taste.”

He admitted, “I wouldn’t like to be in the visual effects business – they’re in trouble, because what costs a lot of money now will cost a lot less. And it’s going to strengthen that space, and of course … but it’s not going to replace the people who make films.”

Ultimately, he said, the goal will be to use AI to help with more technical aspects of filmmaking so studios can create more content for audiences faster.

Another person wrote, “She nailed this. I love the way she talks about it, and it applies to all industries, too.”

Some argue that he’s wrong about using AI in the future, writing, “You’re right in the short term about VFX, color, sound design and other production costs going down, but DEAD in the long run. Soon, AI will replace the need for all people.” and will create the most important films and plays at the highest level.”
