Democrats consider rebuilding after Trump win, want to avoid ‘freak show’ party label: report

Some Democrats are pushing the party closer to the center, according to a new report, after President-elect Trump won swing states across the country and even won the popular vote.

“The progressive wing of the party has to realize – we all have to realize – the country is not progressive, and it is not far left or right. They are in the middle,” Democratic National Committee (DNC) committeeman Joseph Paolino. Young told Politico. One Democrat said in the store, “I don’t want to be a party freak show.”

“I’m going to look for a chair that will be talking to the center and that will be for the guy who drives the truck and goes home at the end of the day,” said Paolino.

A DNC member from Florida told Politico that the Democratic Party suffers from being portrayed as radicals by environmentalists.

“I don’t want to be a party freak show, as they call us,” the DNC member said. “You know, if you’re a mother of three, and you live in middle America and you’re just not into politics, and you see these ads that scare the bejesus out of you, you’re like, ‘I know Trump is weird or whatever, but I’d rather his weirdness doesn’t affect my kids.’

“This is a rebuilding effort from the ground up,” said former DNC chair Donna Brazile.

Two sources in the DNC network previously told Fox News that one of the candidates to run for DNC chairman is Rahm Emanuel, the US ambassador to Japan and a longtime politician. It is reported that Emanuel has been quietly contacting members of the DNC committee as he considers a bid to replace the current chairman, Jaime Harrison, whose term expires early next year. Harrison is unlikely to seek a second four-year deployment following last week’s big disappointment election results for Democrats, up and down the vote.

“I think there’s this whole idea that we’ve gone too far in knowing who we are, and it’s allowed Republicans to really attack us all the time because of that, and that we haven’t really focused on the everyday issues of the American people,” a DNC member from California told Politico on condition of anonymity.

“I don’t care about anyone who is far from the center,” said Pennsylvania committee member Cindy Bass, stressing that the future of the Democratic Party depends on far-left politics. “The center is where we should be.”
