Jason Kidd’s Advice to Klay Thompson Before the Warriors Homecoming

It will be a big day in The Bay on Tuesday, as Klay Thompson returns to the Chase Center for the first time as a Dallas Maverick to play against his old team.

To celebrate Klay, there will be a pregame ceremony and a commemorative fan giveaway with captain’s hats in honor of the four-time Warriors champion.

His new coach, Mavs coach Jason Kidd revealed that he talked to Klay about the evening’s feelings.

“We talked the other day about this opportunity,” Kidd said 95.7 The Game. “It doesn’t happen very often when you leave a team you’ve been in for your whole career. To get a chance to come back and play at the home he built, with Chase [Center]and excitement and competition in Oakland at the Coliseum. Just understanding that it’s going to be an emotional two days here if you talk about today in practice and then tomorrow’s game.

“So are my thoughts [for him] it was just to enjoy it, to accept it and be happy about it.”

Thompson was in Golden State for 13 years and it was a rollercoaster ride, but one thing that was always consistent was how Thompson and fellow Splash Brother Steph Curry executed on the court.

“Of course there are [the best duos],” Kidd said. “You’re talking about the Splash Brothers. It’s just a difference in how they play the game, how they play for each other and how they help each other achieve high goals and that’s winning the championship.

“For the two best shooters of all time to be on the same team is unique in itself, but they loved to play, they knew how to win, they learned to win. So, yes, that combination will go down as one of the best combinations in the NBA. “
