Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend mocked after FOX airs not showing her coaching job, only her relationship
Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffery has started working as an assistant coach on the Butler University staff. During his team’s second game of the season, Clark showed his support for McCaffery in the stands. However, in the eyes of the broadcasting group, Clark may have outdone her boyfriend by coming.
During Butler’s loss to Austin Peay on Friday, the Fox College Hoops broadcast showed Clark sitting in the stands. The broadcast’s name card identified her as “Caitlin Clark 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year.” Then when the camera panned to McCaffery on the side, the name card identified her as “Connor McCaffery’s boyfriend WNBA ROTY Caitlin Clark.”
But the broadcast even had to include McCaffery’s brother in the game.
After disrespecting McCaffery’s title, her brother Patrick McCaffery, a player on Butler’s team who entered court Friday, was shown a name card that read, “Patrick McCaffery WNBA ROTY’s Caitlin Clark’s Boyfriend’s Brother’s.”

The broadcaster did this to this player on a night when he had 23 points and eight rebounds. Patrick is in his sixth college season and first at Butler after transferring from Iowa, where both Clark and Connor played. Connor’s other younger brother, Jack McCaffery, is also on the team as a freshman.
The radio’s neglect of the McCafferys and their positions in favor of linking them to Clark drew mixed reactions on social media.
“Bad job,” one user wrote about the streaming hijinx.
One user wrote, “Nah they defamed Patrick.”

At the time, a very frustrated user complained, “Honestly, it’s sad to keep trying to use his name to get attention.”
However, many other users mocked McCaffery for prioritizing his girlfriend’s public image over his official coaching position and his brother’s position during one of their matches. Fox News Digital chose not to include those comments.

Connor played in 166 games at Iowa, which ranks second in Iowa history. He dealt with injuries throughout his college career, but a redshirt year and a campaign of COVID-19 cost him six seasons. He reached the NCAA tournament in each of his full seasons, except for his COVID season. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds, and played in 111 wins, tying Jordan Bohannon for the most in program history. His assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.59 (527 assists to 147 turnovers) is the second best in NCAA history.
Iowa is also where McCaffery met Clark while playing for the women’s team from 2020 to 24. The couple began dating in April 2023 after Clark led Iowa to a run to the NCAA title game. But McCaffery was a senior at the time, and began his coaching career shortly after graduation.
In May of that year, he began his career as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers. McCaffrey ended up getting a job at Indiana before Clark even knew he was going to play for the Indiana Fever. As luck would have it, the Fever finished with a bad enough record last season to earn the top pick in this year’s WNBA Draft lottery, sending Clark to Indiana, too.
Now, even with McCaffery’s new job, the Butler campus will be just seven miles from the Fever’s home field, Gainbridge Field House. So, their fates will remain together in Indianapolis for now.

The couple celebrated their first anniversary on April 24, 2024, as shown in an Instagram post by Connor that day.
“One year [with] the best life [with] [you] it was easy, and you never cease to amaze me.. i can’t wait to watch [you] live out your dreams personally, I love you,” he wrote in the caption.
On August 10, during the WNBA Olympics break, the couple took a trip to New York City to watch a Yankees game. However, only Clark was seen visiting the Yankees clubhouse, and only Clark took pictures with star players Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and Juan Soto.
