JJ Redick Moment Goes As Well As Frustration With D’Angelo Russell Boil Over
If your name is D’Angelo Russell, you’ve no doubt been frustrated with every NBA coach you’ve ever had and JJ Redick is the latest victim.
DLo was benched for the final 20 minutes of the Lakers’ 131-114 loss against the Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
Before that, you could see how Redick handled Russell’s selection, evidenced in this viral video that went viral today:

When asked why he decided to bench Russell, Redick didn’t hesitate to answer.
“The level of competition,” Redick replied.
“Attention to detail. These are some of the things we discussed with him over the past few weeks. Sometimes he’s been really good about it, and other times he just falls back into certain habits.
“It wasn’t like being punished, but in order to have a chance to win this game, that’s the way we wanted to go. Gabe [Vincent] In the first half, especially on defense, it was fantastic. I just wanted to see what it looked like.”
For many Lakers fans and NBA fans in general, this sequence of events and Redick’s comments will come as no surprise.
LA has been trying to trade Russell for a long time, and it’s clear why.
He has a wide variety of options and impressive plays, but he will also pick lazy, laborious plays that hinder the team’s progress.
Through the first eight games in purple and gold, DLo averaged 12 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 37.5 percent shooting from the field and 29.2 percent from three, over 30 minutes a night. each.
The Lakers need some help at center, and with Anthony Davis dealing with plantar facititus since the summer, maybe the team could include Russell in a big trade?
