Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence unlikely to play in Week 10, weight option after shoulder injury: report
The Jacksonville Jaguars are unlikely to start quarterback Trevor Lawrence against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10, but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there’s a chance it could be much longer than that.
Lawrence is dealing with a left shoulder injury, his non-throwing arm, following the team’s Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rapoport reports that Lawrence “continues to receive treatment and weigh options for the future.”

There have been suggestions that Lawrence will opt for surgery to correct his ailment, including from former NFL coach Jon Gruden, but Rapoport dismissed the rumors.
“There are a lot of options right away and down the road,” he told Gruden on X. “That’s one of them. He’s considered day-to-day with his left shoulder. But as he considers these options, Trevor Lawrence probably won’t play. Sunday.”
SUPER BOWL DESPERATION POINTS: NFL FANS NEED A GAME
If Lawrence is officially out, Mac Jones, a former first-round pick of the New England Patriots, will start in his place.
Jones was acquired this offseason after failing to perform in New England. It started off promisingly with a 10-7 record in his rookie campaign, but Jones slumped over the next two seasons, going 8-17 during that stretch of benching by former head coach Bill Belichick.
By clearing Lawrence’s option, the Jaguars, a team that has not lived up to expectations this season, could be without their franchise signal-caller for the rest of the year.
With a 2-7 record, is it worth it for Lawrence to battle through injuries for a playoff berth that may not come in Jacksonville? That’s one of the questions to ponder, especially since Lawrence signed a lucrative long-term extension this offseason to remain the team’s starting linebacker.
Lawrence received the exact same extension as Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Joe Burrow — a five-year, $275 million deal that includes a whopping $142 million guaranteed.
But many questioned Lawrence, the Jaguars’ first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, to get such a deal considering he was 20-30 as a starter the past three seasons.
Through nine games this year, Lawrence has thrown for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions, one of which came on the road in Philadelphia this past Sunday in what looked like a promising game-winning drive.

Jacksonville is going through a roller coaster this year with their quarterback, but surgery is certainly a question considering CJ Beathard was also signed to back up Jones. Bringing another veteran quarterback into the building would mean.
